President 2025 - Present

Curtis has been a member of the Cannon Valley Civil War Roundtable for 8 years taking over as president at the beginning of the 2025-2026 year. Curtis has a particular interest in the life and career of Ulysses S. Grant and enjoys studying the subject. One of his favorite things about the round table is to learning the more obscure topics, not often covered in most history books.

President 2004 - 2025

Dan Peterson was the first president of the Cannon Valley Civil War Roundtable and enthusiastically served in this role until 2025.  Dan originally became interested in the Civil War as a child, drawn to a painting of a soldier with a rifle in his grandpa’s living room in St. James, MN. 

After serving in the Air Force, Dan became an elementary school teacher in Winona, MN.  There, he was a charter member of the Hiawatha Valley Civil War Roundtable and enjoyed being active with them for 27 years.  He chose to resettle outside Faribault, MN after retirement in 2004 and alongside a small group of people with the same passion, founded the Cannon Valley Civil War Roundtable in 2005. 

Dan has traveled to and studied countless Civil War battlefields, landmarks, reenactments, and monuments all over the US, and has yet to quench his thirst for learning
